Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog)
Poster Design

The brief asked us to re-design a full-colour A2 poster promoting the re-release of a Silent Era movie (pre 1930s), as though it were being released today. The design investigation was to begin with research into silent era cinema (pre 1930s again).
The task was to choose a silent era film and promote the re-release of a film, as if it had never been released before. Therefore we weren't allowed any hyperbolic references to “digitally remastered” or “new and undiscovered”, etc. The film needed to be promoted on its own merits, without reference to the past, as if it were a new film being released into today’s landscape.
For this project I chose the 1929 surreal short film " Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog)", which also featured the legendary Salvatore Dali. I chose to digitally recreate an icon based on what was probably the most infamous scene in the film in the most minimalist way possible (spoilers, it involves the splitting of an eye with a blade). The colour palette is made up of only two colours, with red (for obvious reasons) and black to give a bit of depth into the poster.
